Spring Cleaning
It’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning!
I know there are many people up north are still snowed in, but here in Florida, depending on where you live, it’s warm.
When it’s time to tidy up and organize your home in time for spring cleaning, you are sure to come across items which will be difficult to get rid of and you might not know what to do with them.
These hard to get rid of items include mattresses, batteries, old appliances, medication and more.
We want to make sure your spring cleaning goes well, so here are some suggestions on how to get rid of these troublesome items without having to spend a lot of money to haul them away.
Duracell has recycling and collection program in certain cities.
Contact them for rules.
If you are getting new tires, ask the old shop to recycle them for your.
Call a local shop to see if they are worth being repaired or retreaded.
If you purchased a new mattress, ask the store to recycle your old one.
If it’s in good condition, try selling it on Craigslist, Nextdoor or donating to FreeCycle Network.
The FDA suggests you look for local disposal options instead of throwing them out or down the toilet.
Some pharmacies have drop-box disposals.
You can look for authorized local collectors here.
If you are purchasing new appliance(s), ask the retailer to remove and recycle your old one.
Consider donating to someplace like
Habitat for Humanity ReStores.
If they are not in working condition, find a local waste hauler to take them.
Contact your local Lion’s Club. They collect glasses for people and organizations around the world.
Your local pet shelter or animal humane society would love to have these!
Call2Recycle will help you find local drop off points for your old electronics by your zip code.
You can also contact other donation centers or senior centers who may need what you have.
This is not an exhaustive list of all the items you may have in your home for your upcoming spring cleaning.
But, I hope this post has given you some good ideas on how to get started with your spring cleaning.
Remember to check around your local community for other organizations that will be happy to pickup your usable donations.
Remember, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure….unless it’s garbage, then just dispose of it.
